SunGays: Surrender Dorothy

  • We Luv Video 100 North Loop Boulevard East Austin, TX, 78751 United States (map)

I’ll be your everything, and all you’ll have to be is my Dorothy. Wouldn’t that be nice?

A forgotten 90’s indie that MovieMaker Magazine called “the film that defines the word ‘edgy’ “, Surrender Dorothy is the bizarro force-femme love story you crave.

Lanh begins living with waiter and certified weirdo , Trevor, after stealing too much smack from their shared drug dealer friend. Trevor is the ultimate 90’s incel- you should see what he does with a used fork. Tensions rise between the roommates until Trevor gets an idea: he can use Lanh’s heroin addiction to get the ultimate girlfriend. He forces Lanh to cook, clean, and live as Dorothy in order to get his fix.

Both in conversation with the larger 90’s indie film movement and entirely too dark to be compared to the likes of Clerks, Surrender Dorothy has to be seen to believed. (It was even featured in Roger Ebert’s first Overlooked Film Festival in 1999!) Elizabeth Banks makes her debut, and has later said it’s the film she regrets most. She made Cocaine Bear, so we don’t trust her taste.

You won’t want to miss the weirdo insanity this month at SunGays <3
