Wojnarowicz was a painter, writer, photographer, performance artist, musician, and AIDS activist who is well known in the East Village art scene. Many may recognize his photo Untitled (Buffalo) which was recently used in the poster for Eddington (2025).
David also published quite a few books, including his memoir about living with HIV and AIDS, Close to the Knives: A Memoir of Disintegration. His ties to the avant-garde as well as street art scene in 1970’s New York can be found across all of his work to make something entirely unique.
