Kenji accepts the offer for a summer job from schoolmate Natsuki, only to discover he now has to pretend to be her fiancé during a family reunion. Meanwhile, in the online world of OZ (imagine Zuckerberg’s Metaverse if it were actually cool and useful), a rogue program has been stealing accounts and using them to wreak havoc in the real world. As the danger escalates, Kenji, Natsuki, and her extended family may be the only people who can stop the destructive AI.

With Summer Wars, director Mamoru Hosoda puts his best foot forward to present an exciting sci-fi action flick nestled inside a much more poignant tale of the importance of family and analog relationships in the digital age. Presented in Japanese with English subtitles. Rated PG for some fighting and tense situations.
